VoWiFi is the extended version of Voice over Wireless Fidelity, which takes the advantages of wireless VoIP networks in order to communicate on VoWiFi enabled telephones. Audio is converted into data packets and over Internet using the VoIP technology and Wi-Fi offers wireless operation.
Wireless devices such as laptops, PDAs, and wireless mobile phones are connected to internet with the help of hot spots or access points. Using the radio signals the phones operate and when they are adjacent to the networks access points they can log into the internet by receiving the signals.
Issues concerned
But it will take long to convince people about the whole VoWiFi concept and the main reason for its negative attitude is lack of security. Another factor prevailing is that users that use wireless networks can access to other internet connection by visiting other hotspot. Security being the primary issues, it needs to be corrected and so also other issues such as length of the hotspots. Hotspot has 90 meters in length before the connection is lost and as soon as someone replaces their cellular carriers they could not find VoWiFi.
Hybrid phones are suitable for dual applications that are it can be used for cellular phone services at the same time they can use their VoWiFi too. This provision enables the user to save on roaming charges that is, if the user drives out of the range while using mobile phone is likely to be charged roaming fee but this can be avoided if the phone could access Wireless Network. VoIP services are not applicable to any taxes or roaming charges as if for now.
Future of VoWiFi
Many companies are coming forward to accept VoWiFi and to encourage the wireless security. Better security networks are available which will avoid others jumping into your access points. In the coming years the price of VoWiFi phone will reduce too. VoWiFi integrates wireless VoIP networking to the package which proves cost efficient. Technology is increasing at a fast pace and the services existing in the VoWiFi will improve over the years.
VoIP technology has successfully replaced telecommunication systems and FCC and US government are trying hard to place rules and restriction to the use of VoIP products and services. When it comes to VoWiFi they will be more rules and with the current issues such as weak batteries, expensive VoWiFi phone maintain a connection outside of a hotspot or 90 meter range and so on makes the progress hard.
With the integration of web cams, digital cameras and web based applications and mobile phones are customers are thrilled at large. VoIP enables cost efficient performance and the two together in one phone is a blessing. But in few years of time hybrid and VoWiFi phones will rule the consumer market.
