VoIP verses Security

VoIP is well known for the benefits and advantages that it provides to the customers. However, it is unknown about the darker side of VoIP. In comparison with other traditional lines VoIP faces many challenges which results in the need for security. If there are any loop hole left when security is concerned the whole system experience a downfall. This will in turn affect the individuals and organisations linked with VoIP.

Thus the safety and security aspects should be given more importance than the benefits provided, because security the whole service may be endangered.

Causes behind the issues

Functioning of the VoIP is to transform the sound signals in to digital signals through the internet. The whole process may sound very easy and simple but the technology itself is like a walk along the rope. On top of that there is a misconception that VoIP functioning is taken care of VoIP and thus additional precautions are not considered.

Security issues
Let go off the big organisations that can be effected. Even the residential users face difficulties and lack of security. This matters the most when they are exchanging security details and other important issues. Enough security is not provided and thus there is a chance for others to access the information by over hearing them. Telephone banking is perfect examples were security is needed the most.

In case of the business, many such problems may pop up and issues may be never ending. The main reason behind this is that business networks are expanded and they may use different means to connect the internet. It is here were hacking becomes a prominent phenomenon.

Not to forget about the virus factors that is yet another prominent factor. The delays in connection and sound quality are the work of the virus. This is mainly due to the overload of VoIP networks. Spam is another similar issue were by the users cannot go on with his work and is overburdened with marketing calls.

Handful solutions are offered by which there problems can be easily rectified. Encryption is one method that can be facilitated in the unit. This allows you to enter a credit number is the web page. The second method is to separate VoIP data form the rest of the VoIP traffic making it more convenient is using the service. This can be done using a Virtual Local Area Network, VLAN. If one opts for both the methods simultaneously the call quality will be reduced to a large extent.

If the quantity of the VoIP service is concerned rather than the quality the whole thing will be turned upside down. Thus quality of service QOS should be given the foremost preference.
