Security of VoIP has been the most talked about issue since the evolvement of this technology. The VoIP security factor is given a deaf ear by most of the customers and some times it is not highlighted. The main reason for this is that people take VoIP security for granted and people haven’t come across any problem.
Many factors contribute to the darker side of VoIP which has not occurred in reality. For instance there are similar phishing scams to those that have bombarded the email sites. Criminals have kept their eyes and minds wide open and are searching for loop holes to make their moves on VoIP users. Their purpose is to collect the bank information of respective VoIP information and pull the string when its time for them. They do it very easily behind the curtain of VoIP. A similar case has been previously recorded but it has not given much attention and awareness.
It is not necessary that the works of these bad people are intended for remuneration or profit at times leaving scar on company’s name is more than enough. They target companies without a backbone thus paralysing their phone systems becomes very easy and almost effortless. Sometimes the company is in troubled seas as the hackers demand huge money for setting free the phone systems.
Awareness of these kinds of practices is not relevant in the present situation as VoIP hasn’t made its entry in the mainstream. Thus the hackers doesn’t find profitable to them. This is the apt time for both providers and subscribers to be aware of the danger waiting for them. Most of the time cause of the awareness becomes the one who is adversely affected by them. The company on their side can make VoIP as secure as possible and offer customers better service. Some wise companies that have previously secured their technologies are BorderWare Technologies and the NEC Corporation.
