Survival of VoIP

With the increase influence of VoIP in our daily business and other related aspects of life it have reached a stage were one could not do without them. VoIP is not a recent concept introduced but it has existed for the past years but now with improvements made it has a complete new outlook. The only one difference is that it has been widely used by the customers recently.

Voice over internet protocol or VoIP in simple terms means interfacing voice or audio input with a microphone device. Then it digitalised the audio signals in to packets and after that sends it to the destination over the internet network. This is then turned in to voice on the other side.

Skype is very easy to use and its function itself is as simple as it sounds. It is capable of brining together people of different boundaries and locations. Within the period of 18 months one can get attached to 18 million of people.

The whole process looks so easy and effortless. One can go global sitting in cafes, bedrooms, office and from anywhere. Sometimes your personal business and communication will be published by somebody in a remote area.

No regulation for VoIP
Telephone companies are trying hard to make their system attractive and demoralise VoIP application. They try to hinder their operation through E911 non-compliance, taxation, regulations, etc. But in reality it is almost impossible for governments to regulate VoIP. Shutting down internet is the only way out which is however not going to happen. Every day new application will be introduced to filter VoIP from the networks.

This same practise of discouraging people from actually accessing internet was brought out in various time periods. When e mail were introduced Post and Telecommunication Administrations (PTAs) tried to hinder prevent people from accessing them by peaking about national security, infringing on the rights of the state-owned monopoly post office and many reasons more. But at the end people got over this pressure and instead of getting email from local ISP and email hosting providers they depended on Yahoo, Hotmail, or other free mail service. Now email is not an issue at all which will be same with VoIP.

Now, VoIP servers have gone in to the public domain. Even if regulations are set for Vonage, a number of companies will emerge which is not that difficult. The fate of telephone system is going to be disrupted if Yahoo, AOL, MSN, and other instant messaging will join hands of the growth of VoIP. The stunning figure of 30,000 users each day of MSN’s instant messenger proves makes this fact believing.

What about the telephone company
VoIP has already gained speed and there is no chance of them returning back. Thus the telephone systems have one option left that is to concentrate on building physical networks, partner with one or more VoIP which may make them sustain in the market.

No matter what the pressure VoIP has to face from outside factors it will not get disrupted, but will get better at every phase. It will redefine the way one communicates in the society and network.
